Cardio_Heart_HealthWelcome to the new 'Smoothie' for the 21st century family!

If you haven't enjoyed a smoothie at the mall, or from the blender in your own home, it's time to turn over a new leaf. An aloe vera leaf, that is.

If you have access to mature (three to five years old) aloe vera plants that grow out-of-doors in areas that are warm year-round, then you want to use 4 tablespoons of the pure, transluscent aloe vera gel inside the leaf (do not use the rind nor the yellow-green substance just under the rind) per standard size blender. (For the small single-serving blenders, use about 1 tablespoon of the inner aloe vera gel.),

Should you not be so fortunate to have your own mature plants you and your family will benefit most from a bottle of the plain "Aloe Vera Gel" pictured above. (This "Aloe Vera Gel" is the purest consumable aloe vera in the world.) Now, there are other drinks from this company, but for the purposes of using aloe vera in your own drinks, soups, and the such we suggest you use only this gel as it has no flavoring. The other drinks, potent and great, are flavored and therefore not always suitable for your recipes as they may alter the taste.

A word of caution: Do not buy aloe vera leafs at a market. Once seperated from the plant the gel begins to deteriorate. And, when exposed to light and/or oxygen, the inner gel - if not stabililzed properly (so as not to harm the beneficial nutrients) - oxidizes rapidly with significant loss of benefits within hours.

Here is one great ideas for you to start. Try it, and experiment!

Delicious Orange Juice / Spinach / Aloe Vera Gel Smoothie:

5 cups FRESHLY squeezed orange juice (do not use concentrate nor anything from a bottle)

1 cap of pure vanilla (makes the orange juice 'smooth!') extract

3 cups well-washed spinach. (Even if the spinach comes in a bag that indicates it's washed, be sure to wash it yourself.) Stems removed.

1 cup Aloe Vera Gel

2 tablespoons of raw honey or agave. (alternative: 1 teaspoon of a good sweetner made from Stevia - a natural sweetner that is sweeter than sugar without the drawbacks)

Blend well with water until well-blended. Add plenty of ice after blended and continue to blend until 'smoothie' consistency. For a thicker drink, and additional potassium (aloe vera gel has potassium too) that your body needs, throw in a banana!
